Potato Variety Trials 2024
We will be hosting an Agrico variety trial again this year – focusing on some of their blight resistant varieties. We also have a field scale trial looking at Levante as a Charlotte salad replacement. We are in our second year of trialing Alouette, which is an early maincrop red skin variety with late blight resistance in foliage and tuber.
We are also in our second year of trialing Peter Pan, another blight resistant variety, which has been supplied by Maincrop Potatoes.
Karelia, supplied by Greenvale AP, is also in its second year of field scale production with us. This variety has good resistance to both species of potato cyst nematode (PCN); Globodera pallida and G. rostochiensis.
Over 50% of the varieties that we are now growing have some level of blight resistance. This is critical, especially with the wet summer that we are experiencing this year!
