Onions
Onions have slowly become a major part of our root crop rotation. We continue to supply both ‘packing’ and ‘box scheme’ markets.
This year we have 26 hectares of onions in production – a mixture of sets and drilled (red and brown onions).
The varieties appear to have excellent resistance against downey mildew, a major issue in organic production. The southerly aspect of some of our fields has also helped greatly.
As part of our Integrated Pest Management (IPM) we grow the onions near our early carrots in order to help control aphids and other pests.
